Do metals like steel and aluminum break down in landfills?

    Yes, most metals do break down in landfills by a process called oxidation. But, this doesn’t mean it is good for the environment. Many toxins are released through this process like methane and carbon dioxide. Keep in mind, although not all metals oxidize this slow, some take thousands of years.
