Dyes are used to make a food or supplement look like it tastes, i.e. if children’s vitamins taste like cherry, red dye will be added. So look for any vitamin or mineral supplement that has the most natural coloring (i.e. browns, tans, salt/pepper look) to avoid dyes. Artificial dyes have bee proven to aggravate ADHD disorders. There are, however, natural food colorings. It is now mandatory to list “inert” ingredients on labels, which is what a dye is. Some labels will also tell you what it is free of (if anything).
