The lead in pellet form would not contribute significantly to the water quality as it would stay in pellet form for a very long time. However, those lead weights can have negative impacts on wildlife, especially ducks. Ducks eat gravel to keep in their gizzard to help them digest food. Sometimes they ingest the lead pellets. The intense grinding action against their food and other rocks causes the lead to flake and break down resulting in the duck getting lead poisoning.
The lead weights are bad for other wildlife as well. getting lead out of our environment can only be a good thing. Using non-lead alternatives would be best.
