Do landslides need water to happen?

No, although water can be a contributing factor. Landslides occur when the stability of the slope changes, which can be due to groundwater pressure, erosion of the toe of the slope due to waves, loss of vegetation, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, vibrations from human machinery, and blasting.
