Do Japanese people eat a lot of dolphin?

Dolphin is not considered a delicacy in Japan, but is often sold as whale, a much more expensive meat.  There is an anual dolphin slaughter between September and March in the cove area of Taiji.  In this small town hundreds of dolphins are corralled and either sold for dolphin shows or killed.
