Typically with any plant it becomes necessary to protect from frost–especially with smaller plants such as Ivy. Granted, there are a few exceptions, but typically it is better safe than sorry in terms of covering plants to protect from frost. However, it would be most beneficial to figure out what variety of ivy you have, as I am sure that certain varieties are resistant to frost.
