Do I have to have the county test my well every so often for contaminants?

Because you have a private well, you are ultimately responsible for ensuring the health and safety of your water, according to the Center for Disease Control. You should have your well tested at least once a year, a good time is in the Spring, to make sure all the mechanical functions are working properly. Additionally, you should have your well tested for “total coliform bacteria, nitrates, total dissolved solids, and pH levels” at least once a year, which can be done usually by your local government.
