Do lakes have a life span?

Yes. Animals and plants in the lake die. Leaves and soil get washed into the lake. All this debris sinks to the bottom and decays. Eventually the bottom of the lake starts to build up, the lake gets more and more shallow until wetland plants can grow. Eventually the whole area will no longer pool water and it will simply be a very fertile meadow. The amount of time this takes depends a lot on the conditions of the particular lake.
