The Ozone layer absorbs incoming solar radiation, which creates the temperature profile of the Stratosphere. This profile is such that the temperature increases with increasing height within the Stratosphere. Due to this profile, vertical mixing is generally inhibited, and since roughly 95% of the Earth’s atmosphere is in or below the Stratosphere, there is essentially zero mixing or penetration of greenhouse gases between the lower levels of the atmosphere and the upper levels.
