Gophers are unhealthy for your lawn. They chew on roots which then kills the grass which leaves you with sporadic holes and brown spots. Not only do they attack your lawn but they can damage under ground wiring and sewage pipes for your home. There are various ways to terminate these animals, but the technique used depends on the size of the infested area.
Gophers can definitely destroy gardens. In addition to the “traps, baits, electronics, gas bombs, and lawn sprays” covered on GopherGuide.com, steel fences can be submerged underground to wall off the garden, or you could build an owl nesting box for a barn owl pair to move into. You can’t bring the owls in yourself, they won’t stay, but if you build a proper nesting box, they will likely come on their own.
