Do fruit /veggie peelings decompose quickly?

Very quickly, compared to plastics like soda bottles or fishing line, which can take over five hundred years. Depanding on what plant it is, as well as the temperature, moisture and organisms in a given environment, fruit and vegetable matter should take from a couple of weeks to a couple of months to decompose. For a few examples, an apple core will take about 2 months, a banana peel 2-5 weeks. Interestingly, paper products like newspapers and paper towels take about the same length of time.
