Sometimes the way food is cooked can release pollutants, particularly when one barbecues. The main concern is what happens when prepared and unprepared foods are not preserved properly or consumed before they begin to rot. Rotten foods may not release the same types of chemicals that we are concerned with when, say, we microwave plastic containers that contain potentially hazardous and/or nonbiodegradable compounds. Rather, the oxygen begins to cause rot that can be poisonous to the body. Also, mold that forms on rotten food can result in airborne spores that can cause damage to our health as well.
