Do flat screen LCDs consume less energy than regular monitors?

Not only do Liquid Crystal Display LCD monitors take up less space than tradition Cathode Ray Tube CRT computer monitors, but they use less energy too.  Energy Star says that some LCD screens can save 1/2 to 2/3 of the energy used by CRT screens over the life of the product.  When compared, a 15″ LCD consumes 25-50 watts while a 15″ CRT consumes 60-80 watts.
