Do fish drink water?

Fish have to maintain an equilibrium in salt balance with their bodies and their surrounding environment. It mostly depends on if they are in a fresh water environment or a salt water environment. Fish that are in saltwater will drink water and filter the salt through their gills when their bodies salt concentration is too high. Fish such as salmon, spend different stages of their lives in fresh water as well as salt water. This mechanism allows for them to live in both environments.
