Yes, gyms use a lot of energy. With all the lights, electronic equipment, air conditioners, TVs, showers, etc., a gym uses much more energy than the average building of similar size. Because of this large consumption of energy, some thinking is being done on how to start gyms that harness the power of the people who use it. Their membership fees would be discounted by how much power they produced (i.e. how often they work out and how vigorous their workouts). Such gyms are currently in the works.
