Dreaming definitely helps to maintain, restore and improve memory and cognition and is necessary for the brain to function properly. Dreams are often related to higher levels of brain processing and there is much debate to what causes dreams. Some say that it is the subconscious mind expressing itself, or some say that it is the biochemical expression of all of the processes we go through while sleeping. Others say that it is the realm of the spiritual world. Whatever theory you align yourself with, dreams are very important and are a big part of brain health.
