My parents own a property that has coyotes on it. Whenever a siren goes off, they all start howling with it. Coyotes use their howls to bring their group back together after hunting, to warn other packs of coyotes that they’re there and they want to stay on their own territory, or as a bonding thing.
Coyotes do howl, they howl to communicate with other coyotes. It is more likely that you will hear a coyote than actually see one. Sometimes coyotes howl to signify their territory so that others will stay out. They also yelp, bark, and huff. Huffing is usually done to call pups without making a lot of noise.
