Do consumers have to remove plastic or other types of bottle caps prior to recycling them?

Do bottles etc. w/ caps not get recycled?

Yes, you do have to remove the caps as they are not recylced.  The reason why, is that the caps and lids all have different melting points than the other recyclable plastics and it contaminates the load.  Try to find another use for them, otherwise you can throw them away.  Bottles with caps have to have them removed prior to recycling.

I have been told by our recycling master here at Woodland Park Zoo, that if the caps/lids are 2″ or larger, they may be recycled–reason being they won’t jam the processing equipment like smaller caps can.
