Yes. Companies who produce waste that is classified by the government as hazardous are required to dispose or recycle it through methods specified by the government. They are required to make sure it is recycled or disposed of properly even if they hire a company to dispose of it. The EPA has many guidelines on the process.
In my lab we work radioactively, with hazardous chemicals and with biohazards. We are required to have containers to collect these wastes in so we can ensure they are not discarded with the normal trash. Other than having the requirement that they do not break easily, and that they can be sealed, they have no specific requirements of the type of material or size they are supposed to be, but we do have to make sure they are separated from the regular wastes.
