Do cloth diapers use more energy than disposable ones?

Disposable diapers use around 80,000 pounds of plastic (just for American babies) a nonrenewable petroleum product.

Washing diapers at home or sending them to a dirty diaper laundry service uses no more water and energy than an adult doing their laundry or sending out for a laundry service.

The link below has much more information about the toxins involved in disposables, the amount of trees they use, landfill space and ground water contamination from feces in landfills.
