Well, in a way they do. All living plants will help clean the air. However, when you cut them down, they release some when they decompose. So it depends on whether they clean more of the air when they are alive.
When they are alive, yes CHristmas trees (evergreens) do help reduce carbon, perhaps moreso than other trees because there are alive year long. However, once the tree is cut down and used as a Christmas tree, it loses its ability to to convert CO2 in oxygen.
