Chicken bones do take a long time to break down fully. They will become brittle and some will break up but many will most likely stay in tact for a while. Animal by-products are usually not encouraged for composting. Bones are obviously designed to be strong so they will stick around. Soaking chicken bones in water for a week will make them rubbery (you may have done this experiment in elementary school). I’m not sure if they would compost better this way, but it could be worth a shot!
