CFL’s do not get as hot as conventional lightbulbs and have a reduced fire risk. Inside the glass conventional bulbs, there is a resistive wire that gets very hot when an electric current is applied to it. The light gets brighter as the temperature of the wire rises. A CFL uses a long sealed glass tube that has a small heating element at each end.
