Do CFL’s and incandescent lights really produce different types of light?

The difference between fluorescent / compact fluorescent lightbulbs and incandescent lightbulbs is the way that they produce light.  Incandescent bulbs produce light by heating the filament inside, which wastes a lot of energy.  Fluorescent bulbs contain a gas which produces ultra violet light when excited by energy.  The UV light is turned into light in the visible spectrum when it goes through the white paint that coats the inside of fluorescent bulbs.  It doesn’t use any heat to create the light.
