The answer is no, unfortunately. Recycling centers are being hit be the same economic hardships as just about every other business out there right now.
In California, for example, recycling centers get approximately 50% of their income from what’s called a recycling materials handling fee, which is paid for out of the California Beverage Container Recycling Fund. The California Beverage Container Recycling Fund is a collection of the CRV we pay at the stores. In recent years, the state has borrowed more than $400 million from this fund, completely depleting the resource as of November of last year. As a result, many recycling centers have been force to close their doors.
