Do fires cause the air to be fresher after they happen?

No. Fire-smoke releases particulates, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, all of which pollute the atmosphere and are hazardous to human health. The amount of pollution casued by a fire depends, to a large degree, on what is being burned. Wood and coal fires release a great deal of pollution into the atmosphere. Other substances, such as natural gas, burn much more cleanly.
