Do cars that run on propane produce a lot less carbon?

Compared to gasoline cars, yes.  Liquid propane-powered vehicles produce about 10% of the greenhouse gases produced by gasoline vehicles, although propane is a less efficient fuel.  Propane is a fossil fuel, however, and its supplies won’t last forever.
