Yes. According to car manufacturer Audi, “LEDs can also reduce a vehicle’s fuel consumption.” They now have LED lights installed in their R8 model. Because of this, LED lights also lets out less CO2 into the atmosphere.
But I wonder if this really provides a material fuel savings? It sounds good (like the prius’ solar powered a/c system), but I am skeptical whether it provides enough savings to justify the effort. If not, it’s just another case of greenwashing.
