Do cars do a good job of controlling the bug populations?

    Not even remotely.

Ultimately nature has its own methods of keeping insect populations in check.  Bats, birds and spiders, among other things, feed on insects.  A lot of insects also have relatively short lifespans – flies tend to live for less than a month.  Mosquitos live on average from 3 to 100 days.

None of these methods are very good for pest control – bug spray or citronella candles may be more effective.
