This depends on the materials used to produce the blue jeans. Synthetic fibers (man made) do not decompose. Woolen clothing does decompose, but in doing so, produces methane which contribute to global warming. However, jeans are usually made of cotton and cotton does degrade during oxidation, hydrolysis, or both. In addition cotton decomposes when exposed to humidity or ultraviolet light. Depending on the conditions, cotton can decompose in a matter of months.
