Do birds get in the way of airport operations?

A flock of birds can cause airplane difficulties if a bird collides with the aircraft, causing damage or gets caught in the turbine engines. A bird will have difficulty getting out of the way of a plane because of the speed of an aircraft, and flocks of birds are a hazard. Considering a bird collision may cause damage to an airplane and possibly place the human occupants of the vehicle in danger, airports consider “bird strikes” a top priority hazard.
