Unfortunately, irresponsible mountain biking can cause damage to trails and wildreness areas. Riders occasionally ignore signs and head off the trail or go up cow trails that were not designed for biking use. Delicate flora and fauna are often disturbed by roudy mountain bikers.
In order to reduce the impact that mountain biking has on the physical environment, it is better to take curves carefully (sliding turns widen trails and cause damage beyond the trail bed) and only ride on dry, packed dirt (riding on mud or wet ground results in wheel ruts that change the way water drains down the trail).
Can forest rangers site them for not being on the trail?
