Not all bats eat blood. Most eat fruit, insects, or nectar. Blood eating bats, don’t suck the blood exactly. They make a small wound on the feed animal and lap up the bleeding blood.
Vampire bats do drink blood, but not through fangs. They have sharp teeth to “painlessly” make an incision on the prey, and then use their tongue to help drink the blood. Contrary to popular belief, they are not sucking blood from their victims. The bats need only about 2 tablespoons of blood each day, which can be up to 60% of it’s body weight.
