Do appliances use the most energy in our homes?

According to the US Department of Energy, space heating accounts for the greatest energy use in homes at 31%. Appliances account for 9%, but this number doesn’t include computers and electronics at 9%, lighting at 11% and refrigeration at 8%. All together, this makes 37% of home energy use, which is quite significant. Energy efficient appliances, as well as turning off TVs and computers and finding and repairing heating and cooling leaks, can do much to save energy and money.
