At the Montreal summit in2007, approximately 200 countries agreed to accelerate the elimination of CFCs by 2020 in a United Nations-sponsored Montreal summit. Developing nations were given until 2030.
The US phased out CFCs in 2000; some other countries still employ it as a refrigerant, especially on large sea and air vessels, as they develop alternatives for the 2020/2030 phaseout date.
