Do American bison have any predators?

Wolves are a major predator of bison. Wolves typically prey in late spring and early summer, with attacks usually focused on cows and calves. It has been found that wolves actively target herds with calves over ones with none. The grizzly bear can also pose a threat to calves and sometimes adult bison.

Wolves prey on American Bison in the spring and early summer. They mainly prey on calves and weakened cows.  Also, there are instances of Grizzly Bears preying on bison, though their ranges generally don’t overlap.

Humans could also be seen as predators to the American bison. Bison hunting is legal in some states mainly for population control purposes. Bison hunting licenses are also very limited and tightly controlled though.
