Do trees always die when they get infected by pine beetles?

While it’s hard to say whether or not trees ALWAYS dies when they are infected by Mountain Pine Beetles, the beetles do target the most vulnerable trees in the forest, which generally end up dying. In particular, the trees that are most likely to be killed by the pine beetles include trees that are not growing vigorously due to old age, crowding, poor growing conditions, drought, fire or mechanical damage, and root disease.
