Yes. All angiosperms (flowering plants) produce fruit. The papaya fruit that we eat comes from a species of tree called the Carica papaya. Other species in the genus Carica also produce papaya fruit, but not of the edible sort. For example the Carica candamarcensis, mountain papaya, produces a green papaya fruit, but is not consumed.
