Do all birds mate for life?

Over 90% of all bird species are monogamous. This means they maintain an essentially exclusive pair bond with just one member of the opposite sex. Most North American birds form bonds for a single nesting season. Others mate for life, by pairing up again each breeding season or remaining with each other year-round.
