Do all reptiles have forked tongues?

    Not all reptiles have forked tongues. Within reptiles, it’s the snakes and monitor lizards (e.g. Komodo dragon, water monitor) that are best known for having forked tongues. The fork is actually an adaptation to allows for a sort of “directional smelling” in these reptile species, as the two tips sense different intensities of a given odor. These two “reference points” allow the reptile’s figure out where the smell is coming from.
