    Not all flying insects start their lives as larvae. Flying insects that start their life as larvae are known to undergo complete metamophorsis. That is, they have four stages namely; egg, larva, pupa and imago or adult. Examples are : House fly, butterfly, mosquito etc Those that do not start as larvae are known to undergo incomplete metamophorsis. That is, they have three stages of life which include; egg, nymph and adult or imago. Examples are: cockroach, grasshopper etc.
