Battery lifetime has more to do with the energy being drawn than with the type of battery. If a 9V and a AA battery were being used separately to power two of the same device, the AA battery would theoretically last longer, because its capacity (in current over time) is greater. The discharge of a battery’s energy, and therefore its lifetime, is also affected by other factors like temperature and how long it’s been sitting around.
