The simple answer is yes. When using default settings, especially if the television is a plasma, then 3D TVs consume much more power than 2D TVs. In the five televisions that were tested 3D used much more power than 2D and the plasmas used twice as much power as the 2Ds. The reason for this appears to be that the picture needs to be brighter, therefore using more energy to create the correct light levels for the picture.
