Autopsies done on the penguins showed that they had no food in their stomachs. The cold waters probably made the fish that the penguins eat move to other waters.
The penguin deaths were found to be most likely caused by exhaustion or hunger after said penguins swam miles and miles away from home to find new food supplies after theirs were decimated by the effects of climate change (a key contributor to the changing currents which affect fish populations around the arctic).
