A public poll is not readily forthcoming, but the speech failed to impress many in the environmental community because they felt it lacked detail and hence force. Asad Rehman, Friends of the Earth’s senior international climate change campaigner, described President Obama’s speech as “a missed opportunity” and called on him to make a firm commitment to cut emissions by 40 per cent. Keya Chatterjee, the acting director of the World Wildlife Fund’s climate program, also called the speech a “missed opportunity” and criticized it for its lack of specifics.
