The stimulus package has indeed funded a great many public works projects. However, many of these projects are pretty small-scale, like paving roads and fixing bridges. One example of a large-scale project that has been a great success is the extension of the canopies over the commuter rails in Chicago, which protects more travelers from the elements, and, in allowing them the comfort to spread evenly along the platform, has made entering and exiting the train much smoother. The critics of the bill say that it focuses too heavily on short-term fixes, and not enough on rebuilding infrastructure. However, it does take time to get these sorts of long-term infrastructure oriented projects going, and several cities have projects in development, so keep an eye out for those stories in the news.
