Did the amazing race shed any light on the E-waste problem when they were breaking down the computers?

Several people have blogged about it, and it would seem there is some news coverage, so it seems that some are absolutely taking note of the problem. Personally, I think it was a great tactic to seek out coverage of this enormous issue. We seem to not care where the e-waste goes, as long as we can think that it’s being ‘recycled.’ The reality is, though, that whether we admit it or not, many Americans have a very “out-of-sight, out-of-mind” mentality. It could be argued that we are not to blame for this, as our society makes it so easy to forget what happens once we put the trash out on the curb. But I think that having that episode of the show was a really brilliant idea…seeing these somewhat-celebrity white Americans coughing and trying to take apart soldered computer parts safely absolutely should have struck home with many of the people who watched it.
