It seems their strategies is to connect themselves with green technologies in an effort to save their failing auto industry, illustrated by the auto show that they now host. The concept cars that are showcased there range from hybrid to totally electric, and possibly foreshadow a booming new industry. The only issue is whether the companies are willing to make these green cars a reality, which could lead to the opening of new plants, or if they are just designing concepts in an effort to look green.
For example, Toyota came out with another hybrid at the Detroit show, though it already has one. However, the Hyundai hybrid, which is much more revolutionary in that it has solar cells in its glass roof and can travel 40 miles just on electricity from a plug-in, is still just a concept.
