Archie Carr explained how a species of turtle would lay eggs on Ascension island and swim to Brazil and that the distance would get farther each year. He was a nature conservationist. The turtles now have to swim back 1200 miles, but the distance wasn’t nearly that far in the past. Plates in the Earth move about 2 centimeters a year, so the distance changed over time.
