The dengue virus is transmitted to humans by the female Aedes aegypti mosquito. Therefore, the disease may be transferred if a mosquito bites an infected person and then bites someone who was previously un-infected. This disease typically occurs in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Scientists have found that the mosquitos may be more active during times with little temperature change.
